Words I never thought I would say. And I have now said them twice in 24 hours.
First, I think his ad yesterday was a class act. I don’t agree with his policies or where I think he would take the country, but he is a decent man who’s proud of our country at this historic moment.
Then, he surprised many Americans, myself included, today when he chose Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate. Bravo to you Senator for looking past the labels this country sometimes has problems looking past. This is a truly historic selection, as it ensures that one of our top two offices will be held by someone other than a white male.
But the biggest cheer goes up for Barack Obama. As I said last night, his nomination would open doors, and that is exactly what has happened for Sarah Palin. It’s highly unlikely that a little known governor of a sparsely populated state would have been tapped otherwise.
I know little else about her, so for today, I congratulate her.
And governor: Send a little thanks out to the guy from Illinois who made it possible.

I’ve got to completely disagree with you. Mom was ready to give him the benefit of the doubt on the ad, too, but I think it was just done so people would call him classy. I just don’t buy it as genuine. Maybe that’s just me.
As far as his pick for VP, I’m surprised that you don’t see it for what it is: a really obvious gimmick.

I have to go with jane here and say that what with her own version of Troopergate, the fact that she only has two years of experience and was the mayor of a town the size of Martin, Tn and that she is so far to the right it makes my head spin, he went with gimmick only and very little substance.

OH, don’t y’all get me wrong. I’m NOT saying I think she is or is not ready for the job. All I’m saying here is that its good too see mccain looking beyond the norm. BUT my bigger point is that Senator Obama made this possible. And my somewhat implied point, was that McCain picked her to try and combat the change element that Barack represents. Because Barack (or if it had been Hillary) is the nominee, McCain felt he had to pick someone different. Give me a day or so, I’ll post about what I think about her readiness, or lack there of if that’s the case. I just wanted to learn more about her before commenting.

[...] For my right-leaning buddies out there, I realize this is a slam dunk. I’m not a conservative as you know if you read this blog and I’m really not posting this to you guys but more to my brethren who say they will vote for a woman for the sake of that’s she’s female. McCain shrewdly released the information after the eve of an amazing, historic speech from Barack Obama. As a matter of strategy, no one can deny that this was masterful pr move. [...]

Jed, he had to look past the norm, or he was obliterated. It was a masterful stroke– throwing really pretty sand in the eyes of the American electorate. But she’s a disaster, and now, we may wind up with her as Veep. God help us.
